Eimur - for a sustainable society


Eimur is a public-private partnership/cluster formed by the Ministry of Environment, Energy, and Climate, Landsvirkjun (The National Power Company of Iceland), two local utility companies Norðurorka, Orkuveita Húsavíkur, The Association of Municipalities in Northeast Iceland (SSNE) and the Association of Municipalities in Northwest Iceland (SSNV).


The central role of Eimur is to improve the utilisation of resources with value creation, sustainability and innovation as core drivers.


This entails:

  • Supporting the improved utilisation of energy resources, thermal or electric.

  • Improve the utilisation of side-streams from industry, agriculture or other technical infrastructures, in the spirit of a circular economy.

  • Pave the way for the clean energy transition in collaboration with municipalities, businesses and other local stakeholders.

  • Improve regional level of sustainability by facilitating a balance between the environment, economy and society.

  • Empower businesses and value creation through applied research, supporting entrepreneurs and innovation within operational businesses.

  • Communicate opportunities in these sectors and present them to businesses, investors, the public sector, schools and research facilities.


Eimur fosters cooperation within sectors of energy and resources, leveraging the region's strengths and knowledge bridging the gap between individuals, companies, and institutions and international partners.
